形态描述：攀援小灌木，高可达6米；小枝圆柱形，无毛，有短小皮刺；老枝上的皮刺较大，坚硬，经栽培后有时枝条无刺。小叶3-5，稀7，连叶柄长4-6厘米；小叶片椭圆状卵形或长圆披针形，长2-5厘米，宽8-18毫米，先端急尖或稍钝，基部近圆形或宽楔形，边缘有紧贴细锯齿，上面无毛，深绿色，下面淡绿色，中脉突起，沿脉有柔毛；小叶柄和叶轴有稀疏柔毛和散生小皮刺；托叶线状披针形，膜质，离生，早落。花小形，多朵成伞形花序，花直径1.5-2.5厘米；花梗长2-3厘米，无毛；萼片卵形，先端长渐尖，全缘，萼筒和萼片外面均无毛，内面被白色柔毛；花瓣重瓣至半重瓣，白色，倒卵形，先端圆，基部楔形；心皮多数，花柱离生，密被柔毛，比雄蕊短很多。花期4-5月。
